Markhor'16- Wilderness Based Youth Leadership Conference

Markhor is Pakistan’s premium wilderness based youth leadership conference and one of the most unique and powerful youth gatherings in Pakistan. A four-day intense leadership program, Markhor revolves around using wilderness as a catalyst to prepare youth for taking on leadership roles in their communities and personal lives. Since 2013, over 250 youth have graduated from Markhor and entered professional lives, launched social ventures, conducted community work and raised their confident voice at various social and national platforms.
Each year, up to 2000 youth apply for this conference and top 75-100 are selected based on an extensive assessment of leadership potential.

THE DESIGH OF MARKHOR CONFERENCE:
Markhor is an experiential learning based conference that simulates real life challenges of youth in four days of wilderness, enabling participants to discover these challenges, relating them to personal and social life and debating and discussing to find solutions to these challenges. This is done through A) A wilderness experience of 4 days (camping and surviving on a mountain top at 9240 ft above sea level) and B) A series of simulations, projects, activities, learning sessions and keynotes, all embedded in the conference theme of the year and channelized to ensure dialogue, reflection, concrete learning and motivation around the learning objectives of the conference.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
The selection is done through:
1. MERIT – Selecting the best applicants (Self-awareness, sense of purpose motivation for social development, proven leadership potential and preparation to attend a wilderness program)
2. DIVERSITY – Cultural, ethnic, geographic, religious and social diversity

THEME OF MARKHOR 2016:

This year, Markhor will focus on answering the critical question - what are we doing beyond our self to: sustain our surroundings, empower the weak, develop solutions to problems, preserve what is important and shield from what is harmful.
Delegates will discuss and highlight the deepest of our social challenges, relate them to personal, national and global issues and use their experience to devise solutions and develop the motivation for implementing their solutions in their communities post-Markhor.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

ELIGIBILITY:
Youth aged 17-25 who have not entered professional life.

As a youth, Markhor will use wilderness to help you rethink life and - practically - help you reach into the unexplored celestial depths of yourself. Through survival and companionship, you will foster deep connections with a diverse group of youth from all over Pakistan and develop your own plan for creating an impact on the society, community and Pakistan.
