total of 29,040 Pakistani youngsters assembled at the National Hockey Stadium with green and white placards on their heads to make new entry to the Guinness World Record (GWR) for making the largest human flag. Pakistan has snatched this title from Bangladesh's 27,117 youngsters. Earlier, Pakistan had beaten Singapore in 2012 by forming human flag of 24,210 youngsters.
Congratulating the winners, the PML-N leader Hamza Shahbaz said the name of Pakistan has risen again higher than the height of Himalayan. He also announced an endowment fund of Rs 2 billion to mark the historic occasion. Earlier, students had made the national human flag in Punjab Youth Festival last year, but Bangladesh broke it with numbers.
It is worth noting that all the participants of the human flag making ceremony competed against heavy rain and hailstorm at the turf of National Hockey Stadium before standing up to form largest human flag on earth at around 8PM in the evening. Much credit goes to the Punjab Sports Minister Rana Mashhood Khan and his team for keep charging the shivering youth to show resilience and strength for a national cause. DG Sports Punjab, Guinness World Record representative Leo Wiger were also took active part of the presentation. Rana Mashhood said, "Today record is reflection of the fact that Pakistani nation is a disciplined one and once it decides to do something it get done." He saluted the students who despite heavy rain remained available in the stadium.
It may be noted that last year, the government of Punjab spent huge funds of Rs 8 billion to hold the Punjab Youth Festival in which some new world records, including that of human flag, were made. But Bangladesh broke it the same year to take the lead. This year too, huge amount is being spent on Youth Festival. After setting the World Record of the largest human flag, the world record of singing national anthem is expected to be set on February 19.
