Youth Leadership Symposium at GIKI

The students of the Department of Computer Science university of Peshawar participated in a three-day youth leadership symposium (YLS)at Gulam Ishaq khan Institute (GIKI) Swabi on 21th to 23^rd January 2011, arranged by Women Engineering Society (WES) in collaboration with School of Leadership (SOL) Karachi.

The objective of the symposium was “To Discover The Premises Of Tomorrow”. Various lecture sessions, its implicating activities, the conscience prodding environment and collection of students from all over the country were the vital features. Lectures were delivered by the young speakers Umair Jaliawala, Khadija khan and Noman khan with the aim “to learn with fun”.  The facilitators transformed the spirit of success, focused on how to organize life, time and Attribute, Aptitude and Attitude.

On the arrival to GIKI, the participants were warmly welcomed. The symposium gets started at 6:30 pm with the introductory speech of Noman Khan then Khadija khan teamed up the participants in five groups for various activities; team presentations , stories in skits , music composition and games.

On 21^st March, the thematic skits performed by the teams were unforgettable. In a presentation each team presented itself as a part of dynamic society having specific theme, slogan, symbol and style. This was immensely interesting and creative event. In music composition, every team had to compose music using stones, voice, claps, and other materials instead of formal instruments.  ‘Tug-Of-War’ and ‘Water Fight’ were played in the game section. The last day included “A Walk To Remember “and certificates distribution in the closing ceremony.

 Ezza Javeed president of WES said in her speech “A leadership route is one crooked road filled with obstacle, A good leader know how to take obstacle into innovative solution, but leaders are made, not born, that’s why WES presented this symposium to explorer the leadership capabilities that our youth posses. I hope that each individual must implement what they learnt here”.

Summing it up, the symposium was a legendary event of creativity. Exploiting the hidden abilities the partakers may begin bowling with an upper hand in the obstacle race ---Life.
