HEC Team Visited DCS for Accreditation

Higher Education Commission (HEC) has set up National Computer Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), the task of NCEAC is the accreditation of the four years undergraduate Computer Science courses in the country. Standardization in the education is very vital for Quality Assurance of the Academic program. A good category awarded in the accreditations brings prestige to the department offering the program and earns respect for the degree which eventually helps the graduates in getting jobs, recognition and admission at higher seats of learning in country and abroad.  Our department opted for the standardization of its BS program; this task was initiated by the then chairman Dr. Muhammad Abid and later on persuaded by Dr. Saeed Mahfooz. The inspection team of the accreditation Council visited our department, inspected the infrastructure such as labs, class rooms, they analyzed the course contents and the performance of the faculty members on the courses taught.  They recorded their observations and presented their reservations and recommendation about our department in the accreditation Council. Based on the report of the inspection team submitted to the NCEAC, our BCS program offered at our department was given the category “X”. Category “W” being the highest, X the second highest and Y, Z respectively the lower categories.  It is indeed a great moment of honor for the chairman, faculty and students that our BCS program is awarded a category better than many of the public and private sector universities. The inspection team also highlighted the deficiencies of the department and hinted that in the next inspection visit if these are overcome, the category of the BCS program will be elevated to ‘W’.
