HEC Team Visited DCS for Accreditation

Higher Education Commission (HEC) has set up National Computer Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), the task of NCEAC is the accreditation of the four years undergraduate Computer Science courses in the country. Standardization in the education is very vital for Quality Assurance of the Academic program. A good category awarded in the accreditations brings prestige to the department offering the program and earns respect for the degree which eventually helps the graduates in getting jobs, recognition and admission at higher seats of learning in country and abroad.  Our department opted for the standardization of its BS program; this task was initiated by the then chairman Dr. Muhammad Abid and later on persuaded by Dr. Saeed Mahfooz. The inspection team of the accreditation Council visited our department, inspected the infrastructure such as labs, class rooms, they analyzed the course contents and the performance of the faculty members on the courses taught.  They recorded their observations and presented their reservations and recommendation about our department in the accreditation Council. Based on the report of the inspection team submitted to the NCEAC, our BCS program offered at our department was given the category “X”. Category “W” being the highest, X the second highest and Y, Z respectively the lower categories.  It is indeed a great moment of honor for the chairman, faculty and students that our BCS program is awarded a category better than many of the public and private sector universities. The inspection team also highlighted the deficiencies of the department and hinted that in the next inspection visit if these are overcome, the category of the BCS program will be elevated to ‘W’.

Sir Amjad Ali Published a book: Representation in Computational Logic

Book Title
In Artificial Intelligence knowledge representation is a combination of data structures and interpretive procedures that leads to knowledgeable behavior. It is required to investigate such knowledge representation technique in which knowledge can be easily represented in computer. This book compares various knowledge representation techniques and proves that predicate logic is more efficient and accurate knowledge representation scheme. The algorithm presented in this book splits the English text into phrases/constituents and then represents these in predicate logic. Another algorithm splits the Urdu text into phrases/constituents and then represents these in predicate logic. These algorithms also regenerate the original sentences from the representation in order to check the accuracy of representation. These algorithms have been tested on real text of English and Urdu. As the algorithms work on pre-tagged input files, so if the tagging is done correctly then these algorithms achieve high level of accurately. Therefore it is required that there should be proper rules with the help of which one can correctly tag the input text into phrases/constituents.
This book is published by VDM Publishing house, German and its price is 49 euro. It has gained world wide appreciation and is also printed in the USA and UK.
