Knives, the cause of popularity

The local industry of Dir Knives goes downward. Dir Upper a far district of Khyber Pakhtukhwa adjacent to Afghan border is famous for the locally handmade knives. Majority of the local people gifted the traditional souvenir to their friends until now. Across the province Dir Upper is known for their good looking locally made knives. The reasons behind this popularity are the beauty and low prices of the knives. Knives manufacturing adopt an industrial shape which was mostly situated at homes of manufacturers. But today the conditions are no favorable as the one manufacturer Laiq said, the load shedding, low voltage of electricity, Law and order situation and lack of governmental interest destabilize our earning.
The knives are made up of raw material which are purchased from China now while firstly will be brought from different area of Punjab. Local craftsman Amjad also added that due to ongoing operation against militancy visitors were reluctant to visit Dir Upper but we are hoping for the good days as the situation is healing with time.
When we asked about the price of  knives ,the answer was shock able as in the current day the price for a normal use knives was between 100 to 150.The handler of some knives are very decorated in a various manners which show the expertise of local manufactures
The local elders said that the creation of this industry took place in the era of Dir State, which was further merged into Pakistan in 1962. According to verbal history of local masses the factory was established by Nawab Sahah Jehan the King of Dir for their official arms production.

The craftsmen telling with confident that if govt. gives them support they are able to prepare the knives for export because some types of knives are also decorated in such a manner that they are used like antique or souvenirs.
The most important point as that the local craftsmen are also use to make pistol but all are still only manufacturing knives as a fun which show that the masses of Dir are peace and culture loving.

Overseas Pakistanis can now apply for passport renewal online

The interior ministry of Pakistan has launched an e-Services Portal to enable overseas Pakistanis to renew their passports online.
The portal, which went live last week, can be used to apply for renewal of Machine Readable Passports. The online application process takes approximately 16.5 minutes, it says on the website.
Once processed the passports will be delivered to the location provided by the applicant within 10 days for a normal passport. An urgent renewal is processed within four days.
Further, Acting Consul General of Pakistan, Rana Samar Javed, told Khaleej Times “UAE-based Pakistanis can avail this 24-hour service as of now.”
“This also means that people can save time by applying online instead of personally visiting the embassy in Abu Dhabi or consulate in Dubai,” he added.
The e-Services Portal is linked to the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports for online service for Pakistani citizens around the world.
However, currently the system only works for existing documents and is not available for new applications. “People will have to visit the consulate in cases where they are applying for a new passport such as for a newborn, since there are no previous records,” explained Samar.

Road to Accountability

Nawaz Sharif has been given a deadline; the demand is simple. If you say you and your family are not corrupt, present proofs and give answers to the nation on what was revealed about mass scale corruption, tax evasion, money laundering and concealment of assets in the Panama Papers. When the papers came out, investigations started the world over. Iceland's PM resigned, David Cameron had to stand up and answer in parliament, and investigations are still ongoing all over the world. So why are YOU and your family absolved of answering the public if you claim to be a democracy? The nation is aware now; "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time".

Later presiding over a meeting of the local administration during his day long visit to Pattan Kohistan the Chief Minister called upon the government officials to utilize their energies for serving the people of backward areas. The delay of developmental schemes should have a justifiable reason otherwise the funds provided by the government for the services to the people would drain and the people would stay un-served that was an injustice to the people. The government officials must consult the elected representatives for the services in all social sectors because these elected people know better the real problems of the people. He directed the local administration and other officials to do justice with their responsibilities. He said he would send a team from Peshawar to look into the availability of medicines and other services in all health care units in the district and the team would also ask the people about their level of satisfaction from the services being given to people in these health care units. He expressed his annoyance over the non preparation of PC-1 for the completed schemes and directed the concerned officials to rush and prepare the PC-1s of these schemes immediately. The officers should convene a meeting forth nightly and record the pace of progress on these schemes.
In education he directed to draw a clear picture about the services so far provided to their areas. He also directed for functionality of the parent teacher council who would indicate about the fulfillment and completion of missing facilities. The districts he added would get their share and therefore the education department immediately ensure the recruitment of staff in the education institutions. He also directed to move a case in this regard.
In health sector, the Chief Minister directed to ensure services in all the BHUs, RHC, Tehsil headquarter hospital and others. His government has already increased the salaries of doctors upto 2 lac and therefore all districts would have doctors for their BHUs and other staff. He asked the doctors and other officials to deliver so that the people of backward areas should not wander from post to pillar for getting these services.
The Chief Minister Inspection team would visit the area, it would ask the people about the services and medicines available in these institutions, he added.
In irrigation sector, the Chief Minister was briefed about the damages caused by the recent flood in Kohistan. The Chief Minister directed the irrigation department to prioritize the channels and plan their rehabilitation. The district administration should also gave priority to building, health care units and roads damaged by the recent flood in the area, he maintained.
In education sector, the Chief Minister said his government provided equal funding to all public sector educational institutions and he appreciated the brilliant result produced by district Kohistan adding that the other day he had awarded teachers throughout the province who delivered and gave extra ordinary result. Father of Adnan Sami Khan to his son...

 Adnan,
I do not wish to start with the term "Dear" or "son", because I do not wish to acknowledge that you're either of those for me. I am a miserable soul and I do not wish to increase my torment here.
Mr. Adnan, let me introduce myself to you, because you seem to have forgotten it all. Let me refresh your arrogance - fogged memory.
I, am a Pakistan Air Force officer. I am the youngest recipient of Sitara Jurat. I am the recipient of the Medal of Honor from Iran, Turkey and Jordan. The Kings of these countries sought to honor me for my services. I am the recipient of multiple gallantry awards including the SJ and Sitara e Imtiaz, because I fought for my country in the 1965 war, valiantly so. I served three presidents as Aide de camp in my service, and I was taken up into foreign services after my retirement from the Airforce to represent my beloved land across the world. I made it to the 22nd grade, upto the post of Commissioner General, the first, I might add.
Let me indulge deeper into flashback. When you were young and had a taste for music, I bought you your first Piano. You learnt to play and I was very proud of you. I arranged for you to travel across the country to different PAF bases in military aircrafts, requesting their base commanders to let you perform. They took you in with open arms, because of what your father meant to them. That, is where you started your music career from, performing in military bases, travelling on the expense of the PAF, who applauded you for your talents and provided you with opportunities.
Coming back to the 1965 war that made your father who he was. The enemy was upon us. We were a few skilled men, and we had the weight of our country's entire population on our young shoulders. We gave it everything we had and we succeeded. Let me be clear; that was my country's debt on me. I was chosen for this honor, I owed my land more than my singular life.
The enemy that I spoke of, Adnan, was the last five letters on your current address. It was the loathsome colors on the flag you hold. It was the anthem that you now believe in. It was the sound of oppression, the conflict of ideology and the arch nemesis of my beloved motherland.
Soldiers, Adnan, think differently than you liberated and self centered men. For us, it is the sound of our anthem that brings us peace, the sight of our flag that brings us tranquility and the scent of our earth, that fuels our will to live. I cannot describe in any sufficient words how much my country means to me.
The land that you proudly proclaim to be your home, is the land your unfortunate father almost died fighting against. The enmity between your home and mine is so deep rooted and so traumatizing, it is unimaginably treacherous to have even thought about creating a soft corner for the murderer of hundreds and thousands of our brothers, sisters, parents and children. And you, in pursuit of worldly gains (atleast that's what your incentive was) stepped on your father's name and repute to get to the other side. My blood is on the border that you crossed, Adnan. My friends in heaven heard you say Jai Hind. I thanked God in person, that He did not keep me alive to witness that moment. That he didn't make me stay long enough to exclaim your love for the armed forces that have killed my fellow soldiers.
The world remembers me in honorable mentions. But I think I brought myself the worst disgrace that the universe has to offer. I brought you into this world, and whatever I may proclaim, you will always be a cancerous part of me. Deteriorating my honor, you will always be my deepest regret.
Your miserable father,
Sqn Ldr Arshad Sami
SJ, SI(M)

PM Office has strongly rejected the story published in the Daily Dawn of 6 Oct 16

The spokesman of the PM Office has strongly rejected the story published in the Daily Dawn of 6 Oct 16, regarding purported deliberations in a meeting on the security issues. The spokesman has termed contents of the story not only speculative but misleading and factually incorrect. It is an amalgamation of fiction and fabrication. The fact that the report itself states that none of the attributed statements were confirmed by the individuals mentioned in the story clearly makes it an example of irresponsible reporting.
Dispelling the impression created by the newspaper, the spokesman said that the intelligence agencies particularly ISI are working in line with the state policy in the best interest of the nation both at the federal and provincial levels to act against terrorists of all hue and colour without any discrimination
Indeed the Army's and ISI's role and contributions towards implementation of NAP have been proactive and unwavering.
It is imperative that those demanding the right to information at par with the international best practices also act in a manner which is compatible with international reporting standards.
